Call for Artists: Open Studio at NIKA Project Space Dubai 2026

This summer, for the second time around, NIKA Project Space transforms into a dynamic studio, providing artists based in the UAE with a dedicated space for experimentation and dialogue with the audience. Offering a rare opportunity to work within a gallery setting, the open studio fosters dialogue between the artistic process and the exhibition context.

Since exhibition spaces and galleries in the UAE typically close for the summer, we decided to offer an artist the opportunity to use the gallery as a workspace while providing the local audience with access to the artist’s studio and creative process. The final works will be presented in September 2026 at NIKA Project Space, Dubai.

Applications are open until May 17, with the residency running from June 8 to August 28, 2026. NIKA Project Space will cover material and other necessary expenses up to 3,000 AED, as well as exhibition costs. NIKA Project Space does not cover travel and accommodation expenses, as the residency is intended for UAE-based artists. The works are created in the gallery, and the artist must be present in the gallery for at least 2 days a week during the residency period.

The residency does not have a specific theme, but alignment with the gallery’s artistic policy will be a significant advantage.

To apply, please send your application to applications@nika-projects.com. Your submission should contain:

  • Portfolio PDF

  • CV and a short bio

  • A brief letter of interest with a project description of their planned work during the residency

The selected artists will be chosen by a jury of professionals: Rahel Aima (critic, editor, and co-director of the Bayt Al Mamzar Writing Residency), Ramin Rokni Hesam (artist collective), and Katherine Volk (art specialist, cultural advisor, and managing editor of Canvas magazine).

We look forward to your applications!
